History
The Prayagraj Kumbh Mela’s history has a close association with the days when demons and Devtas together churned the ocean to get Amrit out of it. When the nectar was finally extracted, demons and gods started fighting over it to decide who would consume it first. During this fight, a few drops of Amrit fell at four different places including Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. These sites later became the places where Kumbh Mela was organized. Over the centuries, this sacred gathering has attracted millions of pilgrims from different parts of the world.
